Lighting Designer and Founder of Stage Sight
Prema Mehta is the Founder of Stage Sight. She used her experience as a British Asian female Lighting Designer, collaborating on over 200 productions across the UK, to consider how to improve the sector and created Stage Sight after identifying there was a need to create an off-stage workforce in theatre and the performing arts that really reflected our society today.
The industry wide initiative consists of over 100 organisation members and 100 individual members (freelancers) who have committed to implementing practical change to create a workforce inclusive of class, ethnicity and disability. The work is significant and important to ensure our sector is one that belongs to everyone.
In 2019, Prema was nominated in the Theatre & Performance category at the H100 Awards, recognising the UK’s creative talent. She was recently awarded a Fellowship from The Association of British Theatre Technicians and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Prema has designed the lighting for over 200 productions, and works across the UK. Recent work includes productions at The Royal Court, Sheffield Theatres, Shakespeare’s Globe, Storyhouse, and The Young Vic. She has also designed for Madame Tussauds, The O2 Arena and Westminster Hall.
